After too long of a hiatus for the plague, Hyaena has finally reopened it’s doors to the public. If you have been following us on social media, you may have seen that I almost died last August. It was a month in the ICU with great treatment from the best hospital staff, and I’m still in a long recovery process. I want to thank every one of you who stuck around, for the kind words and encouragement. It definitely is damn good to be alive and slinging art again…and what a killer exhibit we have here for you.
Fantasy Masters
Frazetta, Boris, Stout, Kelly – these are the artists that first inspired my love of art. They were the ones whose artwork sent my young mind off into new realms, hungry to explore their fantastic realms. To me, these artists are godlike, untouchable superstars with unparalleled talent. Their paintings still captivate me with the same intensity as when I first encountered them.
Hyaena had the good fortune of stumbling upon a small collection of work from these and other Fantasy Masters. This art comes from someone who was deeply involved in printing fantasy lithographs and calendars for these artists in the seventies. Some of the work is unusual in that it consists of layered CMYK proofs on transparencies that were used in the actual printing process. Each piece makes for a very cool, interesting artifact of the times, since now most tasks of this nature are at least partially done digitally.

If you’ve been following us, then you know that Hyaena Gallery has been around since 2006, showing the best Dark, LowBrow, Underground, Outsider, and Horror Art. The gallery is so much more than that, however. As curator, I highlight literature, oddities, and anything I feel is important or interesting to me…the things I feel need to be shared and celebrated.
#destroytheday is my daily meditation from Instagram, where each morning I share a story about true crime, art, dark history, and other assorted weirdness. I’m using Patreon as a place where these stories can be collected in one part for easier enjoyment, as opposed to being broken up into 2 to 7 part on other platforms. Tags on the posts will help you find related stories as you explore the archive.
