“This subject comes up quite a bit, as people are spending more time at home, and many are cohabitating with family and friends as we all try to deal with these new realities of modern life,” explains Rose.

“This is a feature to look for when shopping for a new toy; even if you don’t go top of the line, the hard plastic cases give old-school batteries something to clank against, so a rechargeable is better, and a silicone-wrapped toy will always be quieter.”

Rose notes that “often if you have a noisy toy with heavy batteries in it, you can wrap a paper towel around the outside of the battery cylinder, reducing the room the batteries have to clank against the case. Sometimes it is just a matter of adjusting the spring so that the battery sits tighter in the case.

“Another thing to consider when trying to eliminate the potential noise at all is to eliminate the motor. Glass toys can be tempered in the fridge or freezer and, when placed against the skin, come quickly to body temperature, and the sensation can almost be like that of a vibrator.

“It’s kind of mind-boggling how different glass feels compared to what you would expect. Excellent for surface sensation and something different. Of course, the noise elimination of the motor may be replaced by the noise of the moans, so keep that in mind If you are trying not to disturb other housemates!”
